Terry Montlick Laboratories LLC is a full-service acoustical engineering firm which designs and evaluates home theaters and critical listening rooms worldwide. Most of our services can be performed electronically, without the need for a site visit. We rely on photographs, dimensions, and other data you provide. The more complete this information is, the better we can design a room that meets your specific sonic needs.
Our work is based strictly on scientific acoustical analysis, not guesswork or a hand clap. Every room we do is custom, yet we routinely work on rooms with budgets of under $10,000 and over $500,000.
Descriptions of specific services include only those items listed, and are limited to a single room. The scope of work on any project may be adjusted by the requirements of the job.

Hourly ConsultingOur hourly consulting can be combined with any other services, or used as an option for small projects, with a one hour minimum.

Pre-Construction Room Design and AnalysisNo interior design is included or implied in any acoustical service. Some designs are altered during the room design process by the interior designer, architect, builder, or home-owner. Such changes will be charged extra at the Hourly Consulting rate. | ||
Basic Acoustical EvaluationWe evaluate a proposed design. This includes up to 1 hour of correspondence (via telephone and/or email) to determine design information as accurately as possible, including room dimension, materials, furnishings, proposed speaker positions, etc. Computer analysis is limited to reverberation times predicted from acoustical equations. Report summarizes our analysis, and provides general recommendations. |

Ultimate Room DesignThis is our pull-out-all-the-stops, top-of-the-line design service. Three on-site visits are typical. We work closely with your builder and architect to achieve fully integrated design aesthetics with ultimate acoustical performance. Provided you fully and faithfully execute all of our design and subsequent acoustical adjustments, your room will achieve Alpha Home Theater Certification, Alpha 2-Channel Certification, or Alpha Multimedia Certification – whichever you desire. Price is on a time and expenses basis. Hourly Consulting rate applies, plus ½ rate for travel time. |

This evaluation is recommended for highest accuracy. We create a 3-D model of the proposed room from your measurements and drawings. We then run professional acoustical ray-tracing software which predicts standard acoustical quality metrics, including reverberation times (T30), clarity (C80), definition (D50), and front imaging accuracy. A detailed report summarizes our analysis, and includes recommendations for acoustical treatment. Includes up to 2 hours of correspondence (via telephone and/or email).
We provide full B-sized schematics, including assembly drawings. These show all acoustical treatments necessary, and specific placement based on advanced ray-tracing simulation of your room. With our decades of experience in professional acoustics, we can provide a design that’s tailored to your needs. Design plans for all custom acoustical control devices are included.
This service adds to Package D sound isolation construction details to achieve a rating of NC-35 or better under typical external noise conditions.
This service adds to Package DI specification of HVAC cooling requirements and duct work, based on room size and equipment.
This service adds to Package DIH design of lighting such as wall sconces and can lighting recessed into soffits, as desired. We also provide a photorealstic rendering of your room using the powerful LightWorks rendering engine.
Early reflection analysis, modal analysis compared to measured low frequency response, dialog intelligibility analysis (Home Theater and Multimedia), reverberation times, and frequency response. Qualifying rooms are automatically awarded Alpha Home Theater Certification, Alpha 2-Channel Certification, or Alpha Multimedia Certification.
